Long Lane 15th June
More than 260 riders from the North Shropshire North Wales motocross group turned out to ride at Long Lane, near Wellington this weekend.
The Inter Juniors were first up with Chester rider Will Hughes and Market Drayton’s Harrison Pharo battling for the first place trophy. A win in race three clinched it for Hughes after Pharo was unlucky to not score points after a nasty fall. Continuing an excellent season, Ryan Davies finished third overall following a second place in race three.
From the moment the gate dropped on the MX 2 Experts, it was evident that there would be no easy winner as the top three fought it out for supremacy. Scott Mathier was the eventual victor, with two race wins to his name, with Tim James his closest rival finishing in second. Aled Bellis looked unstoppable early in the day but a spectacular fall in race three ruined his chances and he had to settled for third position.
To accommodate a large junior entry, the club took the decision to run an extra set of races. In Group 3 Neil Roberts took the win with maximum points. Andrew Marriot and Stuart Williams finished behind him on equal points but Marriott’s second place in race three gave him the edge over his rival, giving him second position overall. Group One saw some competitive racing between the top two, with only one point deciding the overall result. Christopher Jones from Chester was the overall victor with Scott Kerry from Oswestry finishing in second.
Reece Oglesby had an excellent day in Seniors Group Two. After some tight racing he managed to hold onto first overall, a victory as this was only his third Senior race following his recent upgrade from the juniors, Stuart Arden finished just one point behind in second, with Jimmy Pickering from Market Drayton close behind him.
This weekend the group returns to Ollerton, courtesy of Market Drayton MXC, who will be hosting the second round of the AMCA two stroke championships.
